Let’s talk about the chase.
My current read is God of Wrath by Rina Kent, and this week I want to explore kink in dark romance, specifically primal play and the tension of pursuit.
Book three in Legacy of Gods follows Jeremy Volkov and Cecily Knight. A mafia prince meets a psychology student, with enemies-to-lovers tension, obsessive pursuit, and power woven into the attraction. It’s a setup that invites a conversation beyond the spice rating.
Beyond “how spicy is it?”
Primal play draws on instinctive dynamics that can include pursuit, resistance, and the anticipation of being caught. On the page, the chase creates room to explore desire, vulnerability, and control.
What makes the chase compelling: the suspense, the surrender, or the fantasy of being someone’s singular focus?
That’s the lens I’m bringing to Jeremy and Cecily’s story. How does kink shape their connection? What does pursuit reveal about what they want? And what happens when a character’s desires challenge the person they think they are?
For me, those questions give us something to discuss beyond a list of tropes. We can look at the emotional stakes, the shifting power, and the difference between being desired and being understood.
I’m still reading, so this is a reading diary in progress. My full thoughts on Jeremy and Cecily will come after I finish. For now, the chase is our starting point.
Meet the Legacy of Gods.
Six interconnected romances. Six couples. A world of college rivalries, powerful families, obsession, and dangerous attraction. Each book follows a different relationship, with recurring characters connecting the series. Here’s the reading order.
